I am terribly confused with the laballing of citracal . My father was
prescribed 1500 mg of
calcium with 400 units of vitamin D for his bone health . Since calcium
citrate is better obsorbed by the body I purchased citracal and was
giving him 1 tab twice daily .
Yesterday I was reading the label very carefully and find that a
serving size of 2 caplets will provide 630 mg of calcium and 400 units
of vitamin D3 .

Am I giving him half the dosage recommended by the doctor ? Tha tablet
looks big enough compared to other calcium tablets of 600 mg + 400 mg
of vitamin D and are far less expensive . Can I give the conventional
Calcium Carbonate 600 plus vitamin D which cost less and have more
calcium per tablet ? I am confused . Please help .

What is the difference between vitamin D3 and Vitamin D ?

Regards ,
s

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the type of vitamin D, which humans

synthesize in the skin upon exposure to ultraviolet-B (UVB) radiation from
sunlight. Other type of vitamin D is vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol), which
plants synthetize. Best dietary source of vitamin D is fish, which contains
vitamin D3. Some wild forest mushrooms are also good sources of vitamin D,
they contain vitamin D2.
