QC Micro KOH/SALINE

|
When my boss said "who wants to update microbiology QC procedure manual," I
did not notice the others take two steps back. So I have questions re:
reagent qc.
This is a bit asinine sounding to me but....the way things can be...you
never know.
Saline. (used for wet mounts). Do you actually have to keep formalin clue
cells and or yeast on hand for qc. For everyday that said test is performed?
Or do you just accept saline as . . .well. . saline. To be used to
facilitate visualization of cell morphology....and semi annual competency of
course.
Actually, I think the Manual states saline in provided by ER so they are
responsible for QC.
So if that is allowed, it is a moot point.
KOH likewise...perform a mount on yeast to make sure they don't lyse? Or do
you just document that buccal cells showed 80% lysis (package insert said
something to this effect)
These were two head scratchers for me. They really do not seem like
"reagents" to me. They do not tell you anything like a catalase etc.
