can fruit vs. raw fruit

What is the difference between caned fruit and raw fruit? Does caned fruit
have more sugar after rinsing? Caned fruit is soft where raw is hard. Should
one really shop weekly and get their raw fruit and use caned for
emergencies?

Anything that is canned is cooked (during the canning process). Some cooked |
foods may not be as nutritious as raw and will be lacking natural enzymes
that are killed by high heat.

Canned fruit is usually peeled and, as a result, provides less fiber.
It is also less satisfying to most people who enjoy the "crunch" of a
good piece of fruit.

They are different. Cans do not grow on trees, you know. Canned fruit
is processed fruit. Obviously, real food is better in most cases than
processed fruit. Still, canned fruit is hardly poison. |

There are studies which have demonstrated that canned corn is much
higher in antioxidants than raw corn, and also fiber and other
"natural" components can have toxic and anti-nutritive qualities. This
does not mean all canned foods are great. I prefer frozen when
possible (and organic). In the case of raw broccoli, it has been shown
that mild heating is best. Basically, you need to know about each
food, there are no generalizations. |
