(I made a simaler post before this one but I dont think it went through
because i attached the image instead of linking to it. I dont believe these
forums accept attachments)

http://world-news-forums.com/lyme.jpg

The image is 3 different pictures of the same rash I have on my ankle. Just
from different angles and light. Its really small but im already paranoid
that its Lyme disease. I get tested every year for Lyme even though and I
stay in the house 90% of the time... work at home on computers. My mother
had a really bad case of Lyme disease.. Messed her all up mentally and
physically..and my biggest fear was that I would get it some day. I was
mowing the lawn about 4 days ago.. I also did some outdoor activity about a
month ago.

Is it possible this could just be a spider bite, mosquito bite, or some
other kind of insect?

I hope so.. I dont notice any Lyme symptoms yet. And never saw the tick on
me.. But I did scratch my ankle this morning...thinking it was just a blood
scab...and I think it was... not a 100% on that though. I didnt see any
tick though.

See how paranoid this illness can make a person? My mom was sooo messed up
on this when I was a kid.. It was like she had a new personality everyday..
And then when they finally cured her of it, she was one person again
finally. Doctors said she had one of the worst cases ever seen.. Was
undiagnosed for atleast 10 years.

any help would be appreciated,

John

By the way, the rash doesnt burn or itch.

John, I doubt that anyone around here who has dealt with it for several
years would be willing to say it's definitely not Lyme...because of the
consequences of untreated Lyme.

You know what the "classic" bull's eye rash looks like?

Just do a Google image search...use the words "Lyme disease rash".

Draw your own conclusions.

You also mentioned that you get tested frequently...so you know the
drill...and I don't believe that the type of symptoms your mother
experienced should necessarily be expected in every case. (Didn't
happen with me).

I also think it is important not to allow a dread of this disease
prevent you from leading a normal life.

You don't need to curtail outdoor activities...you just need to be
smarter about how you go about them.

I know what it looks like..and its looking more and more like it even
today.. I dont have time to wait 2 weeks for my family doctor visit, so i
may just go to the ER over this.

I know you guys arent doctors...but what would u recommend as a strong
anti-biotic to kill this off? Seems like i caught it in the early stages.. I
AM allergic to Doxycycline unfortunately. I throw-up and have diarrhea
everytime I take it. And I doubt its a herx reaction (like some claim)
because when I was taking it 6 months ago it was for a rash I had on my
face. Im pretty sure thats an allergic reaction I have to Doxy.

Is there an alternate to use to kill off Lyme disease? Think they'll give
me an IV drip at the ER? Maybe if i take Doxycycline through an IV, maybe I
wont have those side effects then. Im not sure.

if you're that paranoid, find a local farm supply/ag store and buy some
animal antibiotics. you'll want to take human-appropriate doses,
though. and make sure what you buy is effective against spirochetal
infections. you can figure this out by looking up online what
appropriate dosages might be per human body weight. although in your
particular case, you might want to check with a zoo and see how they
treat the jackasses in their petting zoo. also, if you buy vet abx,
make sure they are fresh and not outdated, because if you take "stale"
abx it can cause kidney malfunction.

Do you think you might be over-reacting a little, here?

Why can't you wait two weeks?

According to everything I've ever heard, both the "Steere camp" and
ILADS people would agree your chances of a positive outcome are still
excellent. No guarantees...but...

....(looks like a "chigger" bite to me)...

Here is a link to the Treatment Guidelines from the IDSA (Infectious
Diseases Society of America):

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/lyme/IDSA2000.pdf

You can see what they recommend in terms of substitution for
doxycycline.

Also...you should see the recommendations of Dr. Burrascano, his
treatment guidelines and recommendations at:

www.lymenet.org

....(In the on-line library).

You are right...we are not doctors and these questions should be asked
of experienced medical professionals.

Good luck, John.

Because 2 weeks could be the difference between stage 2 and 3. You guys
remember me right? I was the guy who started that "Spinal Tap" thread a few
days ago... talking about how horrible my mom got Lyme. This was BEFORE i
saw this friggin rash.. I cannot friggin believe this crap.. I am more
paranoid then anybody regarding ticks whenever I go outdoors.. I check
myself all the time.. The last month or so I was slackin off though.. I had
Deer in my yard almost everyday up here.

This is such a nerve racking thing for me.. I went to the ER and they put me
on 1500 MG's of amoxicillin a day.. (500 mg.. 3 times a day) But for only
21 days !! These ER doctors dont know crap. I should be on this dose for
much longer if im showing early signs right? I have the rash, chills,
minor aches, stiff neck.. I cant believe how stupid doctors are these days..
This ER doctor just flew in and out of my room...I had sooo many questions
too and he didnt even care. off to the next patient...just like most of the
docs these days.. its very sad.

Im guessing Trong has late stage lyme..am i right? The way he posts makes
me think this.. Its mental function seems very much affected.. You guys
remind me of Dumb & Dumber... But you guys are funny..make me laugh
sometimes.. (trong and 3rd man)

Tried to answer your question anyway...

Well, if you look at the IDSA guidelines I linked you to...I think you
will see that's the recommended dosage for someone who can't tolerate
doxy, if I am not mistaken.

Actually sounds pretty good to me...in terms of ER awareness...much,
much better than I would get around here, that's for damn sure.

What did you expect them to do?

Well...now your ass is minimally covered...maybe now you can go see an
LLMD if you are not entirely satisfied. Get a second opinion.

Well, that's very nice... but YOU are asking US for advice...which, I
would guess...has to make you "dumbest", then, doesn't it?

Hey, you know, that IS pretty funny, at that...

But you guys are funny..make me laugh
