Full automation from Beckman Coulter

Hi.
We are currently considering the full automation sloution from Beckman
Coullter with 2 DX analyzers and one DXi. Any advise or previous
experience? please share.

No "hand on" experience with Coulter, but when I went to look at these
gadgets at - let's say "somewhere in southern England" the first thing that
struck me was how BIG they are compared to an Advia or an XE.

I have some experience with B/C instrumentation from the hematology side. I
have the LH-750 slide maker for three years now and like it. _Some_
maintenance required. However the B/c slide stainer was one of the worse
pieces of instrumentation I have seen in 40 years. The B/C stainer takes up
valuable space in my storage closet. This experience makes me suspicious
of other B/C mechanic arm systems.

We have 2 DXis. They are very fast and easily cope with the immunoassay
workload. I've been disappointed by their reliability and some assays,
notably free T3 and progesterone have not been as good as I had hoped. |

Thank you HTH. I agree they are quite bulcky. In fact we might be
facing a problem of getting them into the laboratory, we might have to
cleave them.

Although hematology is not my area, however, my colleague in hematology
are quite hesitatnt to switch to Coulter. The system can actually
incorporate non BC analyzers, and it seems that this is the direction
we are heading.

Thank you Mike. This is important to know. Those two assays have been
difficult to optimize on most immunoanalyzers. I'll take your point
into consideration when I try this out.
