Greetings,

Quick question about the amount of pills I need to take to control my
chronic pain. I've had severe pain deep underneath my right shoulder
since having orthoscopic surgery. Over the last 6 years I have tried
everything used in pain managment to little avail. My current pain
managment doctor has me on Norco @ 6 daily (every 4 hours) which has
significantly helped with providing consistent pain relief throughout
the day. Prior to 6 daily I was on 4 daily (every 6 hours) and the
medicine would only be effective for 3 hours @ a time, thus an increase
in pain and my neurotransmitters and plasma levels constantly going up
and down throughout the day.

I am also taking 6mg of Gabatril @ night which helps me with my sleep
significantly- it actually doesn't make me tired, but I am able to get
deep sleep (Stage 4) finally after 6+ years of horrible sleep.

My question is this.. My APAP consumption is well below the daily
maximum, and while I see no significant liver concerns with taking the
Norco 6x daily, I do still have pain- and was wondering in your
opinions, If I should ask for a time released opiate medication to help
stabilize the plasma levels and provide a very consistent amount of
pain relief without having to take so many pills?

The only thing I can think of would be percocet which is Oxycodone and
APAP, but I don't think that form of Oxycodone is time released, so
what about something different? As I mentioned 60+mg of a Schedule 3
medicine are required to get a functional form of pain relief, so
should I continue with this or ask for a mild Schedule 2? If so, which
ones?

I want something time released to help stabalize my neurotransmitters,
plasma levels, and pain relief.

I dont want to ask for Oxycodone, last time I even inquired about that
to my Neurologist, I went from taking Vicoprofen to Ultracet. Hahaha-

Addiction is not applicable in my situation, I don't drink Ethanol, but
do smoke about 15 ciggaretes a day to help with some anxiety.

I'm not a nurse or a doctor, but I am a chronic pain patient.
You should look into a base pain med (long acting) to go with your
short acting med.

I take OxyContin (80mg, 3 times a day) for my base med
and I take Actiq 1200mcg for my break-through med.

I also rotate Duragesic with my Oxy, and I rotate Roxicodone with my
Actiq.

Too much APAP, as you already know, is a killer.

(and it's my opinion that Ultram (tramadol) is nasty stuff. Gave me
seizures...)
