CT chest scan question
|
|
|
Got chest ct scan and it said everything is normal. How could that be
that a gallium scan showed a 2 to 3 cm area near my diahapfram and left
lung but the chest ct scan did not show anything?
Could it be the gallium spot was too low for the chest ct scan and I
should have had an abdomninal ct instead? Surely the doctor or hospital
would not have made that mistake would they? |

CT is a fancy x-ray. It shows structure. Nothing more, nothing less.
Gallium uptake is related to abnormal function. A hot spot means that
the gallium is being concentrated in an abnormal manner.
So, you can have a PERFECTLY NORMAL structure that is having ABNORMAL
function on the cellular level. The abnormal function/gallium uptake is
not of a type that causes the tissue to change density/structure/etc.
I'm sorry if that confuses things even more.. but.. even though both
studies are looking at the same "part of the body" they tell you
different things, from different points of view.

Very good questions for your radiologist(s) and attending doc. What did
your doc tell you? |

She must have given some explanation of the findings of your tests? |

Part of adequate, professional medical care is the explanation of
questionable findings in diagnostic exams - it is the most basic
function of a physician treating a human being. The physician must
satisfy him/herself, then satisfy the patient that findings are either
completely normal, or that they demonstrate a certain condition. Are
you satisfied with the disparity you questioned on the scans? |

So that means your physician is not meeting your needs. Either the |
physician needs to do so, or you need to find another physician.
