Do I need to see the doctor? (Heart palpitations)
|
|
|
Last Wednesday, I noticed I started having Heart palpitations.
It would last for maybe 2 seconds (seems longer).
I would get a couple every few hours.
I didnt think it was a big deal, since I had worked out Tuesday, so I
figure maybe its a strain, or Im overally tired, etc.
But then it still happened on Thursday, and it still happened on
Friday.
On Saturday, I dont think it happened, a couple of times it felt like
it was ABOUT to happen, but it didnt.
It did not happen on Sunday either.
So far, it has not happened today (Monday) either. (knock on wood).
Do I still need to see a doctor?
Since it seems to have resolved itself.
My sleep patterns and food intake did not change at all last week. So
I have no idea what could have caused it.
I do have MVP, but with no backwash.
Thanks |

But its over now, so what is the point of seeing the doctor?
Now that I am thinking about this, a few years ago...3-4years, I had
some chest discomfort. not pain.
Thinking back...maybe it was palpitations (dont remember).
It bothered me for a few days, I saw my doctor, he did the EKG. (they
stuck the pads on me for 10 seconds)
He said it was nothing.
Thats all he did, he didnt draw blood (if it was a heart attack, there
would be enzymes in my blood from it right?)
I think the samething might happen if I see him now. :(
What tests SHOULD he have done?
Thanks! |

Perhaps he should have suggested counseling if you feel anxiety.
Cardiac enzymes do not persist for that long:
http://my.cardiovalens.com/articles/articledisplay.asp?articledetail_id=ot_enzymes&article_id=ot
And it does not take a long time to do an EKG.
You already know the right thing is to see the Dr. to check out if there is an
underlying problem. If everything does seem OK, you might look into treatment
for an anxiety disorder - which are common and which often have palpitations
as a symptom.

You dont have to do anything for me.
But I thought the point of a usenet group is to spread information and
to help people out.
Maybe someone could say "you might want to talk to your doctor about
giving you XYZ test, or maybe ABC test, etc"
One reason to come to a usenet group is to gain information and
knowledge. |

Yeah, but I get an EKG everytime I go for my yearly checkup. It just
seemed like a "normal" test, and not something "special" that you do if
someone comes in with chest discomfort.
"If everything does seem OK, you might look into treatment
for an anxiety disorder - which are common and which often have
palpitations
as a symptom. "
But this is something "intangible" no REAL way of finding out if it is
true.
Everyone is going through some sort of anxiety at all times.
I am having relationship problems, and work problems, yes, it is worse
than normal, but not HORRIBLE.
Its nothing that millions of people arent going through everyday.
Not everyone has a storybook marriage or a job like Trump, so its
pretty normal. |

You said you waited for several days. The Dr. did nothing medically
inappropriate. But if you wish to see another Dr. that is fine. But somehow
you are turning this into an excuse for seeing no Dr. at all - which makes no
sense.
And I'm suggesting if nothing shows up in that visit you ask about anxiety
disorder counseling - and there are ways of finding out if you likely have it.
In which case there are medications or couseling available. Or you can take a
chance that you do not have it and continue with possible problems. Anxiety
disorders are neither ralated directly to what is happening in your life nor
typically horrible.

No, I am sure he did everything right.
I am just not sure if its worthwhile seeing him.
But I will probably make an appointment to see a cardiologist this
week. (I am out of town for work)

You might be right...as I mentioned in my other post, work is kinda
"forcing" me to work long hours.
Plus with my insurance, its $40 for each doctor visit.
I know, these are dumb excuses.

Really?
I thought anxity, depression, ADD, etc are some things that are very
tough to diagnose. and the typical symptoms are something that 90% of
people feel at one time or another.

I did not know that.

Not always. A very clear example is social anxiety disorder where someone is
afraid of social situations. You would need to discuss your situation with an
experienced person.

You need your heart to pump to stay alive. We don't know if anything is
wrong. And we can't tell over the internet. You can have an arrythmia that
can kill you next week without warning.
