As an allergy sufferer, to my knowledge, Vistaril has traditionally
been indicated to treat symptoms similar to some of those treated by
drugs such as benadryl--to dry up mucus due to allergic rhinitis and as
a light sleeping aid. Are there other common off-label uses you are
aware of?

It's just an antihistamine with a sedation side effect. There's
nothing special about hydroxyzine.

That's not right. Hydroxyzine is partiucularly usefull for skin
allergies, hives, rashes and such. It is also a lot less sedating then
Diphenhydramine.

Seriously? If you trace the drug's history, you'd find that hydroxyzine was
originally indicated as a sedative (as in to sedate agitated patients). I
dare anyone to take 50 mg of diphenhydramine (a normal single dose) or 50 mg
of hydroxyzine (a massive single dose) and see which one knocks you out
first.

Hydroxyzine is potent antihistamine. The OP is correct: there is nothing
special about hydroxyzine.

You don't measure effectiveness of drugs dose by dose. the most
sedating antihistamine is dihpenhydramine, and its side affects are so
much greater than Hydroxyzine that you would never use an equivilant
dose of 50mg hydroxizine with diphenhydramine.

Where I work, physicians often prescribe hydroxyzine with narcotic pain
relievers. The theory is that hydroxyzine makes the pain pills more
effective.

Tall Tales of The Bible Belt

Another edition of "Tall Tales of The Bible Belt" has been released. This
one's the 29th edition and contains a good baker's dozen tales devoted to
a
variety of subjects. Chief among them the child evangelist Billy Bible who
at the age of seven had saved three thousand souls, the many farmers who
grew vegetables big as houses, so they rented them out. And we rejoiced at
learning about a talking rabbit who travels the Appalachian Trail
preaching
the gospel in small country churches, possums who read your fortune,
singing

bears, the ghost of Elvis Presley attending Wednesday Night Prayer
Meeting,
Bibles giving birth to children and rabbits (more at link below)

This seems to cause brain and heart birth defects in the children. If you go
to http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/case/ace_inhibitors there is more
information and articles on this as well as what can be done about it. There
is also a free case evaluation provided for those who have been had issues
with this. I thought this might be of interest and hope that it may be of
some help.

Hello
Thank you for the interesting message. Methyldopa is generally the
agent recommended for pregnant ladies with hypertension but have seen
ACE inhibitors prescribed for pregnant ladies.
