Bacterial resistance to antibiotics is a major threat to clinical
medicine. However, natural resistance to bacterial infection, which
does not depend on antibiotics, is a powerful protective mechanism
common to all mankind. The availability of iron is the heart of the
matter and the successful functioning of these antibacterial systems
depends entirely upon an extremely low level of free ionic iron
(10(-1 M) in normal tissue fluids. This in turn depends on
well-oxygenated tissues where the oxidation-reduction potential (Eh)
and pH control the binding of iron by unsaturated transferrin and
lactoferrin. Bacterial virulence is greatly enhanced by freely
available iron, such as that in fully-saturated transferrin or free
haemoglobin. Following trauma a fall in tissue Eh and pH due to
ischaemia, plus the reducing powers of bacteria, can make iron in
transferrin freely available and abolish the bactericidal properties of
tissue fluids with disastrous results for the host. Hyperbaric oxygen
is a possible therapeutic measure that could restore normal
bactericidal systems in infected tissues by raising the Eh and pH.

Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors are utilized in the treatment
of essential hypertension and of chronic cardiac failure. They are also
employed in the treatment of the myocardial lesion of
ischemia-reperfusion, which involves oxygen free radicals. In the
present study we investigated the possibility of three angiotensin
converting enzyme inhibitors (captopril, enalapril, lisinopril) to act
as hydroxyl radical scavengers. The rate constants for reactions of
those compounds with .OH were determined using the deoxyribose method.
All there compounds proved to be good scavengers of .OH with rate
constants of about 10(10)M-1s-1 and are iron chelators specially
enalapril. The fact that captopril possesses a thiol group does not
confer an higher antioxidative capacity. These results suggest that
scavenging of oxygen free radicals may be a possible mechanism
contributing to the therapeutic effect of angiotensin converting enzyme
inhibitors.

She had me take a gallium scan. It showed a "hot spot" of gallium
uptake near the diaghafram and my left lung. She ordered a chest ct
scan last week. It was negative.
Now, I am charting my temperature and coming back in a month. I am so
frustrated. I had a low grade fever of around 99.2-100 sometime during
the day everyday for the last 4 weeks. Praise God I have not had a
fever in the last two days.
During all this time I have been tired especially in the afternoon but
not "debilitaingly tired" as I see normally classifies with cfs.
Can anyone out there offer me some advice or hope? Do you think I am
safe from cancer because of the tests I have had thus far?
I appreciate anything you can do!

Hello,
I don't know whether or not you have cancer. It appears to me that you are
doing all that you can do to track down the source of the problem. The
only advice that I could offer you is to discuss with your doctor the
possibility of having an Abdominal Ultrasound or CT scan. This could help
identify any problems with those organs such as cysts.

Can you get cysts in your abdominal area? Is ultrasound as good as ct?
Could the gallium "hot" spot been missed by the chest ct? |
