This is the first time in many years that I have not
felt toxic and sick. And it's all due to a switch
to another company brand of lithium carbonate (Paladin
generic). The other one was IPS. I gather from the
side effects it must be a dose difference.

I felt as if I am recovering from an illness. Now,
I just went to renew my drugs and the pharmacy said
Palandin generic is no longer available for now, and they
gave me Apotech generic. I don't know if this will be stronger
and make me sicker or not.

The problem is I can't convince my doctor to lower my dose,
maybe it's a problem with adjusting the Synthroid ...

aaaaaarrgh.....

Squiqqles,
Ask your doctor if you can split the pills in half. Most drug
stores sell pill splitters (sp???) for less than $5.00. I am reading
a book written by a doctor and he told a story about someone that
was getting side effects from a medication so he starting splitting
the pills in half and taking half a pill each day. The side effects
went away.

N/A - lithium comes in capsules (here at least); with 3 of them per
day and a very powdery substance, I can't do it. I tried skipping
one every week and the reentry felt like a heart attack; my dr.
doesn't think it's a good idea.

I am hoping right now that this other generic from Apotech is also
as benign as the Paladin preparation.

Thank you for answering. I feel trapped in this situation and
my hopes are crushed.

Frankly, I never believed I had manic depression
and even my diagnosis was uncertain. That may
be the rub. I give up now. I can't fight anymore.
If I get seriously ill, at least I'll know that
I did my part in trying to prevent it.

If you pull the capsules apart, you can dump the powder into
applesauce, all three of them. stir very well to make sure the
powder is equally distributed throughout. now you can take as
much per dose as you want, as many times a day as needed.

Might help. Might be better than any other alternative.

Squiggles,
I believe that chimera gave you some great advice. I advise you to take it.
It might save your life. You may want to discuss this issue with your
mental health counselor or psychologist.

Thank you for your concern Jason; i already have about a million
appointment times. My doctor could easily just give me a lower
dose (the caps do come in smaller amount as do pills), but no,
my bloods say I'm in the right index. So, there is not much I can
do. The only option offered is to be put on different drugs - which
i think is a really bad idea given the chronic difficulties in
adjusting the Synthroid, benzos and lithium together and the risks
entailed.

I am presently hoping that this new generic will be as the last one
-- really good. I am crossing my fingers.

I started the new caps yesterday and left the
Paladin "light" ones;
The Apotech preparation of lithium is stronger -
I get some of the old side effects (chest tightness).
On the other hand, I definitely notice a lift in mood.
It is possible that I was heading for depression.
I hope to get used to it.

It is very difficult to take a firm stand on issues
concerning pharmaceutical matters on the net. It has
become a chariot race between pro and con medication
esp. in psychiatry.

Thank you so much Jason and all who read my stuff
and took the time to reply.
