Statin Users--Read This

Before I begin, I would like to state that statins are wonderful
medications that have helped millions of people. The vast majority of
people that use statins have no side effects.
The information in this post was taken from a book entitled ³What You Must
Know About Statin Drugs and Their Natural Alternatives² by Jay S. Cohen,
M.D. I encourage all people that take statins to buy the book. It contains
some great information related to options for people that develop side
effects as a result of the use of statins. One poster told me that he
would not read this book since it was just one mans opinion. That might be
true for some books but itıs not true for this book since Dr. Cohen has
quotations from hundreds of different doctors and medical experts in his
book.
The main purpose of this post is to warn statin users about CRESTOR.
Crestor is the most potent statin on the market. The following quotation
was taken from page 44 of the above mentioned book:
³In March 2004, Public Citizenıs Health Research Group petitioned the FDA
to ban Crestor because of seven cases of life-threatening acute muscle
breakdown known as rhabdomyolysis. In addition, nine patients suffered
serious kidney damage or kidney failure while using Crestor. Several of
these cases occurred in people taking the standard, drug
company-recommended starting dose of 10 mg...²
I just wanted to add that if you are suffering side effects such as muscle
pain--I advise you to call your doctor. Your doctor has treatment options
such as prescribing a low dose statin. Low dose statins are much safer and
cause less side effects than medium dose and high dose statins. Low Dose
Pravachol is one of Dr. Cohenıs favorite statins since it is ³less likely
to provoke dose-related adverse effects.² (page 51)
I should note that rhabdomyolysis is a rare disease.

Very nice, but you should also note that is extremely common for people with
statin-induced rhabdomyolysis (which can be fatal) to have statin-induced
muscle pain prior to developing the rhabdo.
In fact, for a set of over 1,200 medical records amassed for a
rhabdomyolysis action against Baycol (some of these people survived the
rhabdo, others did not and lost their lives to it), 100% showed the
following preceeded the rhabdomyolysis:
statin-induced muscle pain
increase in ck
gout
gall bladder removal
then rhabdomyolysis

Sharon,
I did not know or remember those interesting facts or I would have
included them. My memory does not work as well as it did when I was
younger. Believe it or not, statins even cause some people to have memory
problems. I thank you for letting me and other people know the above
facts. Thanks for the complement.
