When patients fail to respond to the first-line chemotherapy the
likelihood of a response to a second-line regimen may be diminished due to
one or more of the following reasons EXCEPT:

A. enhanced expression of multidrug resistance gene

B. enhanced expression of p53 gene

C. decreased performance status of the patient

D. increased tumor burden

E. selection of resistant clones
