You make a valid point, but Jim and I have both participated in another
group that was just a much a mess years ago. Then the miscreants left,
got bored, whatever, and now it's a quiet little support group, with
immediate helpful responses to newbies who are no longer scared off.
Just takes maintaining a presence and a stubborn streak.

Unfortunately, Dr. Rind is largely right. It will be a while before this
group is helpful again. I found it very interesting to be able to discuss
studies as they were announced, knock around a variety of viewpoints, and
see the opinions of others, some of whom were informed and interesting to
read. Usenet provides a unique opportunity to mix it up with professionals
of various stripes, non-professionals who sometimes have better grasps on
some issues than the professionals, etc. It's a shame that its openness
makes it an easy target for abuse.
As Susan says, it isn't dead, though. It is just taking a break.

There must be a special place in hell for all those miscreants poking
sharp sticks at a person who's so clearly very ill. At least, I hope
there is.
They, not he, prevent this group from functioning as it once did.

The entire Muslim world apparently concluded that Abdul Rehman's faith
in LORD Jesus Christ was clearly the product of mental illness and so
they spared his life.
It seems you share their belief.

Curious that you would hope for your own demise.

Without the regular participation of a cardiologist, this group would
indeed be dead.
You will be in my prayers, dear Susan.

No such thing as either unfortunately or fortunately when there is no
such thing luck (Proverbs 16:33).
Only the LORD can give you a discerning heart.

Unfortunately, a single person misbehaving not only hurts the signal to
noise ratio in a group, which chases some people away, but also draws
others into the fray, which makes things even worse. When you combine
this with crossposting to groups where people really have no clue what
is happening in smc, it's possible for a very small number of people to
destroy an unmoderated ng.
That said, I do find it odd that people will simultaneously state that
they believe someone to be mentally ill and then viciously and
repeatedly attack him.

Not when NG has been blessed by LORD GOD Almighty as SMC has been.
Now ASD on the other hand can be destroyed.

Oh silly boy, will you do it with your pagan use of "chi" that you have
been touting of late? You don't control the internet or any part of it. |
