Kelly met with CDC on Lyme disease
Thursday, July 13, 2006
PoughkeepsieJournal NY
U.S. Rep. Sue Kelly, R-Katonah, met with staff of the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention to push for increased attention to Lyme
disease and other tick-borne diseases.
Wednesday, she spoke on the House floor in favor of the Lyme and
Tick-borne Disease Prevention, Education, and Research Act, which would
increase spending and set an agenda for research and education. Her
meeting with the CDC was to push for action on elements of the bill's
substance prior to approval by Congress, her office said.
About 70 members of Congress have supported the bill, which Kelly
co-authored. It has yet to have a hearing before the Subcommittee on
Health.
Lyme disease is the most common disease spread by ticks, tiny woodland
arachnids that are common in the Hudson Valley. Dutchess County has had
one of the nation's highest incidence rates of Lyme disease for years. |
