Executive Trifocals no longer being produced?
|
|
|
For reading the computer screen (20 inches), I sure like
executive-style lens -- lets me look from left to
right by merely turning the eyeballs -- not the head.
(For computer, bifocals with reading on bottom and
computer-distance on top. For distance -- look over
the top...)
For driving, trifocals (executive-style) -- top for distance,
mid for odometer, etc, bottom for reading maps, etc.
Now, my optician tells me that they no longer make
executive trifocals.
TRUE?
(Only in U.S.? (partly, wholly) Worldwide?)
Anyone know if a manufacturer still has a bunch
in stock, ie haven't run out yet (and didn't
melt them down to reuse the glass!)
And, WHY did they do this?
Thanks!

American Optical and XCel were the last two makers of *GLASS*
Executive. Both of these manufacturers have ceased production of
these and what is on the shelf of laboratories right now is all that
is left.
Yes.

US for sure. Not sure elsewhere.

Supply and demand.
Executive style lenses are rarely fit for new patients anymore, and
when they are it is rarely glass; it is a heavy, ugly lens. In fact,
I don't think I have *ever* fit a brand new presbyope into a glass
exective style lens in over 12 years. And the amount of people I have
currently wearing them in our office could probably be counted on two
hands (maybe one hand). I personally won't miss this product.
Labs aren't crying about this either. My local lab prefers dealing
with plastic -- there is more of a profit margin on plastic lenses and
they are easier/safer to deal with.
Some alternatives:
o Stick with executive-style trifocal, but go to standard CR-39
plastic (photochromic NOT available).
o Move to a different style glass trifocal, such as a FT 8x35. |

I must agree here. Thick, heavy, ugly just what all my patients ask
for..........NOT.
Get the new physio 360. They are working really well with computer
users.

Maybe -- but you can wash and then rub them with anything --
no scratches. That is one BIG benefit.

Do they still make BI-focal exec glass lenses?

Where (on net) can I look at these two lenses -- ie a picture describing
where the lines/curves are?
Thanks! |

That (just now created?) tinyurl.com "directory" (/jq7ky) --
how long will that "url" continue to be valid for?
Thanks!
