Flour, ergot, and other things

I was just reading an old thread in this newsgroup and it had to do
with flour having been gone through so much processing chemically and
otherwise. The thread was closed, but I am interested in the subject as
I grind my own flour. Is there a real danger of getting disease from
grain, like ergot, in unprocessed (other than grinding and baking)
whole grains?
