Does a Low Carb Diet Equal Low Cholesterol?
By Luther Brady
Researchers believe that a diet low in carbs can lower one's
cholesterol

Battling high cholesterol levels,is something that many people are
doing these days. Thanks to fatty foods that we just cant seem to
ignore, doctors are seeing a steady diet so to speak of usually
overweight people come into their office, all of whom lieve, with a
plan in hand to lower their cholesterol levels, which in turn will lead
them to better health.

Researchers from the US have reported that a diet which is low in carbs
may in fact reduce ones cholesterol levels. Like the popular Atkins and
other similar diets, the diet is comprised of foods that contain little
to no carbs, and the people surveyed although all did not lose weight,
all did reduce their cholesterol levels.

Ronald Krauss was in charge of the study that featured 4 groups of men
that were moderately to severely overweight. For the first week, each
group ate the same foods, but after that, each group were fed foods
differing in carb content, with the groups receiving the lower car
laced foods having a lower cholesterol level than they had at the
commencement of the study.

Martijn Katan from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam stated:
"The finding adds to the evidence that carbohydrates have adverse
effects on triacylglycerols and the ratio of total to HDL cholesterol
that are not shared
by dietary protein or unsaturated fat."
