Below is the new scientific journal article by Alan
Barbour demonstrating that OspA is the wrong vaccine
and that OspC is (more likely) the right vaccine.
Gary Wormser is working with Baxter to try to pass off
another OspA vaccine, but as you can see, Barbour
again reports below that OspC is associated with the
brain invasion.
Lisa Masterson in the UK was bagged because she stood
in opposition to the new OspA vaccine, and in
particular, to Edward McSweegan's proclamation that
passing off a bogus OspA vaccine on Europeans would be
easy, because Europeans are more stupid than
Americans.

http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v440/n7082/full/440278b.html
Lisa also opposed the nutcase Simon Wessely and
participated in a protest against Wessely where he
once again tried to say Gulf War Illness is imaginary.

It obviously isn't imaginary.

Vsp surface lipoproteins are serotype-defining
antigens of relapsing fever spirochetes that undergo
multiphasic antigenic variation to allow bacterial
persistence in spite of an immune response. Two
isogenic serotypes of Borrelia turicatae strain Oz1
differ in their Vsp sequences and in disease
manifestations in infected mice: Vsp1 is associated
with the selection of a neurological niche, while Vsp2
is associated with blood and skin infection. We report
here crystal structures of the Vsp1 dimer at 2.7 and
2.2 A. The structures confirm that relapsing fever Vsp
proteins share a common helical fold with OspCs of
Lyme disease-causing Borrelia. The fold features an
inner stem formed by highly conserved N and C termini
and an outer "dome" formed by the variable central
residues. Both Vsp1 and OspC structures possess small
water-filled cavities, or pockets, that are lined
largely by variable residues and are thus highly
variable in shape. These features appear to signify
tolerance of the Vsp-OspC fold for imperfect packing
of residues at its antigenic surface. Structural
comparison of Vsp1 with a homology model for Vsp2
suggests that observed differences in disease
manifestation may arise in part from distinct
differences in electrostatic surface properties;
additional predicted positively charged surface
patches on Vsp2 compared to Vsp1 may be sufficient to
explain the relative propensity of Vsp2 to bind to
acidic glycosaminoglycans.

Pesky Lyme disease hangs on
Medical professionals disagree on treatment
By Robert Miller
THE NEWS-TIMES
If you get bitten by a black-legged tick, what's
your
next move?
If you start showing symptoms of Lyme disease, one
school of treatment argues
you should take at least two months of antibiotics
for
the simplest case and
much more for complicated ones.
You can also expect the tick to be carrying more
than
the strain of bacteria
that causes the disease.
Dr. Richard Horowitz of Hyde Park, N.Y.,
president-elect of the International
Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS), said
"99.9 percent of the patients
I see with Lyme disease are co-infected. There are
10
other diseases we should
be looking for."
Horowitz spoke last week at a forum held by the
Newtown Lyme Disease Task Force.
The second school of thought would argue that the
longest you should ever take
antibiotics is 28 days - even if you've got the
painful arthritis that's a
symptom of Lyme.
It also questions whether there's a condition called
chronic Lyme disease - a
persistent infection that can last for years - and
discounts the threat of
omnipresent co-infection.
"The evidence does not support that - far from it,"
said Dr. Gary Wormser, chief
of the infectious diseases division at New York
Medical College in Valhalla,
N.Y., and vice-chairman of its department of
medicine.
The differences between the two approaches and the
implications for the way
patients are treated for Lyme disease are profound.
