I've posted a Straw Poll on the Web to find out how many people will use
soc.support.vision-impaired if the group is created.

The numerical results (no names) will be incorporated into the 2nd RFD
as evidence of support for the group.

Please do not say you will use the group unless you actually intend to
use the group.

You will find the ballot at:

http://www.ckdog.co.uk/php/voting/vote.php?448dd365a8c58

Thank you for your time.

'Reply-To' header removed; I want this to go to ALL the groups involved.

It may be noted that Henrietta has NO power whatsoever over the creation
of new groups and that she apparently likes to cause trouble just for
the fun of it. This was our experience (realized only after the fact)
during the creation of the moderated group rec.skiing.alpine.moderated,
which passed by a HUGE margin.

Dealing with her was a monumental waste of time and effort.

I have news for you, Bev. News.groups has changed. The old system has
been dropped and a new system is rising in its place.

I am a bona fide proponent for soc.support.vision-impaired. If you
don't believe me, go to news.groups and look up the thread RFD:
soc.support.vision-impaired.
You just might have an interest in this group regardless of how you feel
about me.

The new system is called /Calvin Ball/ by all involved...
the name is an excellent one, with constantly moving goal posts, and
rules which change in the middle of the game. Much the way Henrietta
runs the us.* hierarchy

chose a very bad example.

Then there are various flame wars and sundry kinds of thread drift
going on.

Here's the big question: would you use soc.support.vision-impaired
if it were created?

Would you post to it?

Would you read it?

If you are opposed to creating the group, what are the grounds
of your opposition?

i suspect that there are people who have never been to those ng's who would
love to take part in the group. finding them before the name is searchable
is problematic. i'd not have hung out in any of them, for example, because
they have nothing to do with my particular diagnosis, which is a rather
common one. i've met other folks with similar vision problems/diagnoses on
very diverse fora such as rev.needlework.sewing [iirc] and parenting fora.
it may take a while to get the word out, but i believe the need is there and
the users would arrive given propagation. might start slow, but would be
helpful to folk like me.

oh, and please pardon the typing but i'm 1-handed these days while
recovering from rotator cuff repair and i'm just not doing caps.

No, an excellent one. The b***h acted like she actually had some
authority so we -- hopeless novices at the game -- took her seriously.
It would have been a kindness for the REAL persons in authority to have
indicated that she and her co-a*****le whose name I have forgotten were
just there to cause trouble, but it didn't happen.

Quote:

Yes: rsam was a wasted effort.

It served its purpose. Suzieflame started the process just for a lark
and to cause trouble. We would have been better to ignore him/her/it
and go on our own as had been discussed previously for over a year.
It's unfortunate that the experience you gain in an endeavor frequently
convinces you that you never want to do THAT again even if you do know
how to do it now.

If the b***h is blind, it's no worse than she deserves.

So what exactly is going on?

Short version: rsam was created to avoid the 5-year rantings of a loon.
In the loon's absence, the moderated group has languished. Since we
hadn't a clue about how to start a moderated group, we stumbled around
in the dark for a long time. HKS was kind enough to stick out her foot
and trip us every once in a while.

Isn't there an alt.suicide group? If not, start one. Way simple.

Doesn't common knowledge indicate that people who talk about it don't do it?

Ya know, I and a whole lot of others don't give a s**t about your
stupid pissing wars. But to say something like this about anyone is
just pure evil. God forbid you should ever lose your eyesight. And
thanks to assholes like you the group vote was negative, which is a
shame because a lot of vision-impaired people need a group like this.

Jerks.

Strange, as the biggest useage blind group is the blind-use5rs one, and I've
only seen a couple of people post there.

Personally, I'd like to see a support group, but that very much depends on
how its charter is interpreted, and what constitutes support I suppose.
