Drug reference database
|
|
|
We are a small company developing medical software. Some of the
functionalities are depend on the drug information which includes name,
manufacture, dosage, side effect... We can build a drug database
internally, but that requires significant effort and cost. Therefore, I
would like to ask
1. what are available drug reference information system that can be
integrated into our software?
2. Can we take a drug reference CD and electornically transfer into our
database?
Price information of these product are also greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith |

Yes it does. Accurate and up to date information is critical, and keeping
it that way is not a trivial task.

There are a variety of products that allow such integration.

Legally? Not unless you were to obtain a license to do such a thing. Don't
forget that constant updating would still be necessary for any useful
program.

Not cheap. Price is going to depend upon the specifics of the license.
(The saying "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." comes to mind.)
Something, or rather several things, tells me this is not a
serious inquiry. If I am wrong, and you are interested in pursuing a
professional/commercial license, you could try contacting
Thomson/Micromedex (http://www.micromedex.com), Lexi-Comp
(http://www.lexi.com/web/soldata.jsp), or Gold Standard
(http://www.goldstandard.com or http://www.alchemyrx) for starters. |

I'm sure any company with a drug database would be happy to discuss
licensing etc with you. Why not talk with them directly right away.

Keith-
You might try the good folks over at LinuxMedNews or . Try searching
for "Drug Database".
One immediate possibility may be found at drugref.org.
Hope that helps.

Personally, I love the idea of the drugref.org project, but isn't it all
but dead right now? All requests to subscribe/etc to the mailing lists
just bounce, and the website doesn't seem to have been active or
updated since May 2004. |
