Too low cholesterol?

While it is clear that high cholesterol and especially poor cholesterol
ratios are a risk factor there is some evidence that very low cholesterol
increases some risks too. Low serum cholesterol has been associated with
hemorrhagic stroke, depression and suicide.
I wonder what would be the threshold where low total cholesterol begins to
increase total mortality if you take into account that low cholesterol is
also associated with some pre-existing illnesses like liver disease and
cancer. Below 3.5 (140)?
Also, what would be the reasonable dietary advise for a person with a very
low total cholesterol? To increase dietary fat? Anything else?
