Hi:

I have heard that extreme nociception can cause shock due to its
affects on the autonomic nervous system.

Is A-delta-fiber nociception more likely to cause shock than C-fiber
nociception of the same intensity? I guess the answer is yes because
A-delta nociception results in sharp "stabbing" or "cracking" pain
[such as an injury to the periosteum of the sternum] whereas C-fiber
nociception results in a more dull, irritating, itching/aching sort of
pain [such as a mosquito bite].

It seems to me that the sensation induced by A-delta fiber stimulation
would have a greater affect on visceral reflexes [hemodynamics,
breathing, sweating] than that of C-fiber stimulation of the same
extent.

Am I right?

Thanks,

Radium
