I am not sure that the abbe values in that article are accurate anymore.
Robert M. has said that most vendors have switched to a higher abbe value
material for 1.60 index.
Also, I believe that Sola says that their polycarb is abbe 30, and I suspect
that others are also. Maybe there is a newer version that is abbe 32, but I
would be skeptical.
In any event, there is are two things to consider when looking for lens
material quality:
1. Usually, the higher the index, the thinner/lighter the lens, and the
worse the optical quality (lower the abbe value).
2. Polycarbonate has the worst optical quality of any commonly available
plastic material, and should be avoided like the plague. |
